The story
Shower Cat was born the way most great inventions are: out of frustration, a bit of hair, and a “why hasn’t someone fixed this?” moment.
In 2015, Jamel Patton traveled to Utah for a family wedding. There, he reconnected with his childhood friend, Dr. Tadd Truscott—then a professor at Utah State University. The timing was uncanny, and the two quickly picked up where they left off: inventing things that are weird, specific, and surprisingly useful.
From splash-suppression tech to whale-tracking buoys and iodine mixer heads, their work covered a wide range of niche engineering problems. During that time, Jamel taught himself how to write patents, design products, and prototype independently. That hands-on experience eventually led to his first commercial product—and the start of Shower Cat.
